Adele Laurie Blue Adkins[11] was born on 5 May in Enfield, London, to an English mother, Penny Adkins, and a Welsh father, Marc Evans.[12] After Evans left when Adele was 2, she was brought up by her mother.[13][14] She began singing at age 4 and asserts that she became obsessed with voices.[15][16] In , 9-year-old Adele and her mother, who by then had found work as a furniture maker and an adult-learning activities organiser, relocated to Brighton on the south coast of England.[17]

    30 was released on 19 November and became a global success, reaching number one in 24 territories.[] In the UK, the album debuted at number one on the Official Albums Chart with , copies sold, garnering the largest opening week for an album since Ed Sheeran's Divide in , and also has the highest first-week sales for an album by a female artist since Adele's own 25,[] becoming the best-selling album of in the country.
